Thanks to a final-round, record-tying 10-under-par 62 at the State Farm Classic, the final event in the 2006 State Farm LPGA Series, Annika Sorenstam won the State Farm LPGA Series Bonus Pool and the $250,000 bonus. Sorenstam finished the season with 426 points, 26 points ahead of Cristie Kerr and Lorena Ochoa, who each earned 400 points. Kerr finished alone in second place at the State Farm Classic while Ochoa tied for 11th place.

"It was quite a surprise to win the State Farm LPGA Series," said Sorenstam. "It's something that obviously I'm aware of, but I didn't know they changed the format to winner takes all. Which was a great move. It was quite a special surprise, and what a bonus for the week."

The State Farm LPGA Series is a seven-event bonus pool series comprised of LPGA events televised on the ESPN network. Points were tripled at the Series-ending State Farm Classic. This year, the winner of the Series earned the entire $250,000 bonus pool. In previous years, the $250,000 was distributed among the top 10 players in the final standings.

Rookie Seon-Hwa Lee finished fourth with 300 points, while Il Mi Chung rounded out the top five with 198 points.
It marks the second time Sorenstam has won the State Farm LPGA Series Bonus Pool which includes: Kerr (2005); Ochoa (2004); Hee-Won Han (2003); Mi Hyun Kim (2002); Sorenstam (2001); Pat Hurst (2000); Karrie Webb (1999); and Se Ri Pak (1998) as past winners. Players earned points for top-20 finishes in the seven State Farm LPGA Series events.
